Normalcy? Who defines this? Who created this? In thinking of our recent events, it is hard to miss that we are about to hit the one year mark when our supposedly normalcy was stripped away from us due to a rigorous virus that has left many of us feeling powerless. We were placed on restrictions that we never expected and left with nostalgia of what we left behind. Socializing with friends… eating at our favorite places … exhausting our mental capacities and decreasing our motivations …
But what if we let go of all those expectations… those past expectations of normalcy. Does this new reality really constrict us? Or is it an opportunity to re-shift, remake... shake up our perspectives? Accepting our new reality and taking those negative nostalgic thoughts for what they are (just thoughts) can help us move forward. Acknowledge them and let them float by. As you accept the new reality and proceed with new meaning, new perspectives, new motives that are in alignment with your values, you will recreate your own reality. Your life is what you make of it. We are adaptable beings. We are able to cope, if we are willing to make changes through new constructions.
So maybe this is your time to invest in that project that you had always placed at the bottom of your list or that class that never made the cut. This is your time to develop yourself, create a reality that is tailored for you. Let’s be honest, was there ever a true normalcy?
